Resources for Clergy

How can we change the culture of Giving?

There are no “quick fixes.” But you can:

Improve the decision-making process.

  • Living-room conversations
  • Develop a plan for ministry
  • Ask “what are the passions?”

Adapt the message to the population.

  • Content
  • Delivery method

Adopt new outreach programs.

  • What does the community need?
  • How can we help?
  • What are you willing to do?

Focus on mission.

  • Why are we here?
  • What do we do for others?
  • What is unique about what we do?

Don’t take gifts or givers for granted.

  • Constantly thank people for gifts.
  • Explain how their giving helped others.
  • Give them opportunities to give more.

Realize bake sales won’t do it.

  • There is a difference between fellowship and fund-raising.
  • Focus on financial gifts to ministry.
  • Use events to draw more attention to needs.

Connect Biblical context to current day.

  • Offerings were to accomplish two purposes:
    • To remind us of the source of all we have
    • To meet the needs of the community
  • Stewardship of our finances is the source of health for us and for the community.
